Cris Chan, a Rush Medical College student, proposes to implement a series of weekly health education sessions for high school students at Richard T. Crane Medical Preparatory. These sessions will focus on topics that are most applicable to this age group such as diet, concussions, and stretching techniques to help improve students' knowledge of health-related topics and address the lack of athletic trainers at Chicago public schools. In addition, related healthcare careers will be discussed at each session to raise awareness of career pathway options. Cris hopes to raise $1,500 to give reusable water bottles to the students, as well as supplies to supplement the related activities for the weekly sessions such as ACE bandages and tape.

The Schweitzer Fellowship is a year-long service learning program for graduate students in health-related professions who will design and implement innovative direct service projects aimed at improving the health and well-being of underserved Chicago area communities. Through their community projects and participation in a year-long program that includes mentoring support, monthly meetings, written reflection, and interprofessional collaboration, Schweitzer Fellows are developing the skills and confidence needed to become Leaders in Service—professionals who will remain dedicated to public service and to creating change.

In the summer of 2019, the Schweitzer Fellows for Life network launched Fellows Fest 2019, a campaign to help support our current Fellows' projects.
